Smarter than Ever: Huawei Developer Day Invites App Developers to Join Build an Intelligent Ecosystem
The Shining-Star Program with one billion USD to support global developers accessing Huawei Mobile Services ecosystem.
Philippines, October 10, 2019
Even as Huawei enjoys tremendous success as the second-largest smartphone manufacturer in the world, it looks ever forward in providing its consumer base with even better, more seamless experiences with its vast portfolio of products. As such, the company invited app developers to Huawei Developer Day, an event dedicated to providing developers a unique opportunity into expanding their reach to a wider -- and still growing -- audience through Huawei Mobile Services (HMS).Huawei Mobile Services is the company’s homegrown software ecosystem designed to enhance and harmonize every user’s interaction with every Huawei device,
making it the ideal growth point for app developers in the Philippines and abroad. The platform already has a thriving user base (as HMS ships with every Huawei device), being availabe in 170 countries with 570 monthly active users globally. HMS comes with a suite of essential apps like AppGallery, Browser, Mobile Cloud,Video, and Themes. AppGallery alone has approximately 390 million monthly active users generating 180 billion downloads per year.
Huawei Mobile Services as a unifying platform
This initiative to encourage developers to create or port their apps in HMS partly comes from the rapid growth of non-smartphone products Huawei has been producing for quite some time. Wearables, tablets, and laptops have all seen increased user adoption year after year, and Huawei believes in a unifying ecosystem of apps and services that work seamlessly across all device types and use cases. Moreover, resource-intensive applications like high-end games can stretch their limits comfortably given HMS’ native support for powerful hardware capabilities found in the likes of the upcoming Mate 30 Series.
Build for the future at Huawei Developer Day
For Huawei Developer Day, developers can experience how smoothly they can integrate their app functions in the ecosystem through the extensive capabilities of HMS Core. In addition to tapping into an expansive user base, HMS Core provides a comprehensive suite of tools for developers to build/port their APIs seamlessly with basic services (Account, Map, Location, kits) and growth services (Push kits). Developer Day discusses how HMS works, specifics on services kits and even Openlab Demos.
Shining Star program opens a global path for developers
To demonstrate Huawei’s commitment to this endeavor, the company is injecting the initiative with $1 billion in incentives for developers to build their apps in HMS. Also known as the Shining Star program, this massive push to accelerate development for HMS includes an upcoming expansion of DigiX Innovation Studios to more cities across the globe, as well as the Hala Young Talent Competition. These extensive support programs help foster an open and collaborative environment for developers to grow their innovative instincts in addition to widening their distribution scope.
According to Peter Chen, “We believe that HMS is the key to strengthening that cohesion, and we encourage developers to experience firsthand how our platform can help them utilize that strength. We value collaborative efforts in all forms, and we hope to achieve more milestones with developers who’ll entrust us with their work.”
Huawei’s global success in the smartphone market is a result of a thoughtful and organic approach to software-hardware cohesion, and HMS is the next big step in refining that harmony between man and machine. Huawei Developer Day happens on October 10, 2019, at the Marquis Building in BGC, Taguig City.
