Scenario 1 [local account]: The user has entered an incorrect password, and the message "The password is incorrect. Try again." displayed.

Problem:

After the user enters the password, the system displays the message "The password is incorrect. Try again."

Solution:

  1. Make sure that you enter the password in the correct case and enter special characters correctly. Try your common passwords (such as those consisting of special dates or numbers) multiple times.
  2. If the password you entered is still incorrect, follow the onscreen instructions to reset the password. Click Reset password.
    • If you have set up your security questions, enter the security answers to three questions to reset the password. After you reset the password, use the new password to log in to the system.

    • If you have not set up any security questions, a message is displayed, asking you to insert a USB flash drive to reset the password. If a USB flash drive (such as a physical security key) has been verified, you can insert it to reset the password. If you do not have such a drive, you cannot log in to the system using a local account and its password. Take another way to log in.

  1. If your computer still cannot be unlocked, press F10 to restore your computer to its factory settings by referring to Use F10 to restore factory settings or go to an authorized Huawei Customer Service Center to reinstall the system.

Since the system cannot be accessed, restoring factory settings by pressing F10 will restore the computer desktop and the C drive, which may cause data loss. Exercise caution when performing this operation.

Scenario 2 [PIN]: The user has entered an incorrect PIN, and the message "You've entered an incorrect PIN several times." is displayed.

  • Problem 1:

"Set up my PIN" or "I forgot my PIN" is displayed.

  • Solution 1:
    Reset your PIN:
    1. Connect your device to the Internet. It is recommended that you use a USB cable to connect your device to your phone to share the mobile network or use the mobile hotspot. On the screen for entering the password, click the earth icon in the lower right corner and enter the Wi-Fi password to connect to the network.

Share your network via a USB cable:

      1. Use a USB data cable to connect a phone (Android or HarmonyOS) to your computer.
      2. On your phone, go to Settings > Mobile network > Personal hotspot > More Sharing Settings and turn on USB sharing to share your mobile network or connected Wi-Fi network with your computer.
    2. Click Set my PIN or I forgot my PIN.
    3. Verify the Microsoft account password. For details, see Finding the Microsoft Office account and resetting the password.
    4. Select a Microsoft account or mobile number to retrieve the password. For example, send a verification code using the mobile number and verify the last four digits of the mobile number.
    5. Enter the verification code received by the mobile number, and click Verify.
    6. Once the verification is successful, a message will appear asking you to confirm the PIN resetting. Click to continue.
    7. Enter the new PIN as prompted. After setting the PIN, click OK to access the system. You'll then be able to use the new PIN when logging in to the system.

If "Set up my PIN" or "I forgot my PIN" is not displayed on the screen, see Problem 2.

  • Problem 2:

If you have entered an incorrect PIN three to five consecutive times, the message "You've entered an incorrect PIN several times. To try again, enter A1B2C3 below." is displayed. You can enter this string to enter a PIN again.

  • Solution 2:
    1. If the PIN is still incorrect, take another way to unlock the system.
    2. If all possible PINs have been tried but still failed, restore your computer to its factory settings by referring to Use F10 to restore factory settings.

      • If you can enter numbers but cannot enter letters or characters when setting the PIN on your computer, see I can only input numeric characters when setting a PIN.
      • A PIN must be at least four characters long and cannot be longer than 127 characters. By default, Include letters and symbols is not selected when you set a new PIN. In this case, the PIN only includes numbers. If you want to use letters and symbols, select Include letters and symbols.

Scenario 3 [Microsoft account password]: The user has entered an incorrect Microsoft account password, and the message "The password you entered for your device is incorrect." is displayed.

Problem:

The user has entered an incorrect Microsoft account password, and the message "The password you entered for your device is incorrect. Please try again." is displayed.

  2. Click Login Options, select Microsoft account password login, and click I forgot the password.
