My HUAWEI wearable device and phone disconnect or cannot reconnect
| My HUAWEI wearable device and phone disconnect or cannot reconnect |
I. Quick troubleshooting (1 minute)
- Disable Bluetooth on your phone, wait 5 seconds, and enable it again.
- Press and hold the Power button on your wearable device for 10 seconds to restart it. The device will then attempt to reconnect automatically.
- Ensure your wearable device is within 1 meter of your phone, with no obstacles like walls or cabinets blocking the signal.
II. Common causes of disconnection
- Excessive connection distance: The effective Bluetooth connection range between your wearable device and phone is typically up to 10 meters. If your phone and wearable device are in separate rooms (e.g., the phone is in the living room while the wearable device is in the bedroom), frequent disconnections may occur.
- Signal interference: Multiple Bluetooth devices, complex WLAN environments, multiple routers, or high-power devices like microwave ovens can interfere with Bluetooth signal transmission, leading to disconnections.
- Water immersion: If your wearable device is immersed in water beyond 5 cm, the Bluetooth signal strength will significantly degrade, potentially causing disconnections.
- Incorrect connection method on iPhones: When pairing a non-call wearable device with an iPhone, it must be connected via the HUAWEI Health app. If paired directly via Bluetooth, the wearable device will disconnect.
- iOS system background cleanup: iOS uses a memory management mechanism to clear apps that have been running in the background for extended periods, ensuring smooth system performance and optimal power efficiency. If the HUAWEI Health app is cleared, the wearable device will disconnect.
III. Key settings of the solution
1. Enable GPS on your phone and grant the Huawei Health app the Location permission.
HUAWEI phones
- Enable GPS
- Go to Settings > Privacy > Location, enable Access my location, then tap Advanced settings, and enable Wi‑Fi scanning and Bluetooth scanning.

- Go to Settings > Privacy > Location, enable Access my location, then tap Advanced settings, and enable Wi‑Fi scanning and Bluetooth scanning.
- Grant the Huawei Health app the required permissions
- On your phone, open Settings, and go to Apps > Huawei Health > Permissions > Location > Allow all the time.

- On your phone, open Settings, and go to Apps > Huawei Health > Permissions > Location > Allow all the time.
iPhones
Enable GPS: Go to Settings > Privacy & Security > Location Services, and enable Location Services.
Grant the HUAWEI Health app the required permissions: Go to Settings > HUAWEI Health > Location, and select Always.
Third-party Android phones
Enable GPS (taking Samsung S20 that runs Android 11-based One UI 3.0 as an example): Go to Settings > Location and tap the Location switch to turn it on.
Grant the Huawei Health app the required permissions (taking Samsung S20 that runs Android 11-based One UI 3.0 as an example): Go to Settings > Apps > Huawei Health > Permissions > Location, and select Always allowed.

The preceding methods are for reference only. The actual interfaces may vary by phone brand and OS version. Contact your phone vendor's customer service for further assistance in enabling the related permissions.
2. Set background protection for the Huawei Health app
HUAWEI phones
Swipe up from the bottom of the screen (or tap the Recent tasks icon if you're using Three-key navigation) to enter the Recent tasks screen, find the Huawei Health app, and gently swipe down on it and hold to lock it. Once locked, you will see a lock icon at its upper right corner.
iPhones
Do not swipe up to close the HUAWEI Health app. Keep it running in the background.
Third-party Android phones
Open the Huawei Health app, tap Devices and then your device card, select Troubleshooting, and follow the onscreen instructions to complete the setting. For detailed operations on phones of different brands, see Background protection settings of the Huawei Health app.
Additional settings: Open the Huawei Health app, go to Me > Settings > Notification management, and enable Show step count in notification panel. This is to reduce the probability of the Huawei Health app being cleared by the phone OS when running in the background.
IV. Reconnecting upon disconnection
- If the disconnection lasts 10 minutes or less:
Place your wearable device near your phone and wait 1–2 minutes for it to reconnect automatically.
- If the disconnection lasts longer than 10 minutes or auto-reconnection fails:
For wearable devices that support calls, press the side button or Up button on the device to re-establish the connection.
For wearable devices that do not support calls, open the Huawei Health app, go to Devices, and tap Connect.

- If manual connection is successful but auto-reconnection fails, or if manual connection fails:
Disable and re-enable Bluetooth on your phone, unpair the device in Huawei Health, and re-pair them again.
V. If the issue persists
If none of the above resolves the issue, please call the Huawei customer service hotline for further assistance.
