Unable to enroll my fingerprint or use my fingerprint to unlock my HUAWEI phone

Problem:

Fingerprint enrollment or unlock failed.

Solution:

  • Only a few templates are saved in the early stage right after fingerprints are enrolled on a new phone. It is recommended that you use the middle part of your fingerprint to unlock the screen first. By unlocking the screen with your already recognized fingerprint parts for a few times, you can get other unrecognizable parts recognizable and then use them to unlock the screen until all parts of the fingerprint work for unlocking the screen.
  • Make sure that your finger and the unlock area are clean and free of grime. Water or stains on your finger or the unlock area can prevent your phone from being unlocked.
  • Check whether fingerprint unlock has been disabled by going to Settings > Biometrics & password > Fingerprint ID and checking the status of the Unlock device switch, whether a third-party lock screen app is used to lock the screen, or whether the first fingerprint unlock is performed after the device is restarted or updated or the specified time limit expires. Fingerprint unlock is not supported if the message "Use password to unlock", "Device administrator locked device", or "Fingerprint ID has been suspended" is displayed during unlocking.
  • If your phone features an in-screen fingerprint sensor, and is covered by a non-official protective film (such as privacy film, hydrogel film, or tempered glass film), the signals received by the sensor may be weakened. It is recommended that you remove the protective film, or replace it with an official film before re-enrolling your fingerprint.
  • If your phone features an in-screen fingerprint sensor, and you encounter fingerprint enrollment or unlocking issues after the mainboard/sub-board/front cover assembly/fingerprint sensor is replaced at a Huawei Customer Service Center, a fingerprint calibration at the Huawei Customer Service Center is required after the replacement.
  • If your phone keeps displaying the screen of the mistouch prevention mode, the screen does not turn on when you double-tap the screen, the screen turns black during a call, or the fingerprint sensor does not work when the phone is folded (but works when the phone is unfolded), it is recommended that you go to a Huawei Customer Service Center to check whether the proximity sensor is blocked, which may cause the mistouch prevention mode to be enabled and block fingerprint unlock.
  • Delete all fingerprints and add fingerprints again to improve the unlocking experience (including in PrivateSpace, which you can access by entering the password on the lock screen). If your phone is overheated or overcooled, the fingerprint unlocking may be delayed after the screen is turned off. It is recommended that you wait for 1 to 2 seconds after placing your finger on the screen. The unlocking will work properly after the system analysis.
  • If your phone does not display the Fingerprint ID option, refer to There is no Fingerprint ID option in Settings on my HUAWEI phone/tablet.
