How to clean my HUAWEI earbuds

To ensure a good experience, it is recommended that you clean the earbuds on a weekly basis, especially the sound emitting hole, charging ports, metal contacts, and parts that touch your skin when you wear the earbuds.

  • For HUAWEI FreeClip, refer to cleaning my HUAWEI FreeClip earbuds.
  • Use alcohol wipes or antibacterial wipes to clean the external surface of the wireless earbuds. However, to prevent moisture or water from entering the earbuds, do not use these wipes to clean the ear caps, charging contacts and ports, speaker meshes, mesh, or speaker holes.

Cleaning the FreeBuds series earbuds

  1. Cleaning the charging case:

Clean the charging case with a soft, dry cloth. If necessary, use a wet wipe containing 70% alcohol to clean the external surface of the charging case. Make sure that the charging case is dry before putting the earbuds back inside.

  2. Cleaning the charge port and contact:
    • Use a soft, clean, and dry brush to remove any grime from the charging port.
    • Use a clean and dry cotton swab with a pointed tip to gently wipe the surface of the charging contacts on the charging case.

    • Avoid using a wet cloth to clean the charging case, or exerting too much force, to prevent damage to the contact points or surface.
    • If the earbuds have been exposed to sweat, shower gel, shampoo, or other liquids, or if you have worn the earbuds during a workout, clean and dry the surface and charging contacts of the earbuds before putting the earbuds back in the case.
  3. Cleaning the holes and vents on the earbuds: Use a clean and dry cotton swab with a pointed tip to gently remove any dirt and earwax from the holes, and then use a soft cloth to clean the holes. Avoid using sharp objects to touch the mesh. Otherwise, the mesh may be damaged.

For details about the positions of the holes and vents, see Function buttons and ports of the earbuds.

  4. Cleaning the ear tips:

    • Currently, only FreeBuds Pro 4, FreeBuds 6i, FreeBuds Pro 3, FreeBuds Pro 2 +, WATCH Buds, FreeBuds Pro 2, FreeBuds 5i, FreeBuds Pro, FreeBuds 4i, FreeBuds 3i, FreeLace, FreeLace Pro, FreeLace Lite, and FreeBuds SE earbuds come with ear tips.
    • Do not use alcohol-based wipes to clean the ear tips, as this may cause irritation.
    • Remove the ear tips from the earbuds, and wash them with clean water or clean them with an alcohol-free wipe. Do not use soap or any other household cleaning products.
    • Use a soft, clean, and dry cloth to clean the ear tips before attaching them on to the earbuds.

The shape-memory foam ear tips of the HUAWEI FreeBuds Pro 4 are made of polyurethane (PU) materials. Do not use alcohol, water, or other liquids to clean the earbuds, as doing so may damage them or shorten their service life. If the ear tips are exposed to sweat or water, absorb any excess moisture by gently rubbing them with a tissue, and place them in a cool area to air dry. Do not use a hair dryer or other heat sources to dry the ear tips, as doing so may deform the ear tips.

    • Clean and dry the ear tips using a lint-free cloth or by placing them in a well-ventilated environment before attaching them tightly to the earbuds.

Do not use alcohol-based wipes to clean the ear tips, as this may cause irritation.

  2. Cleaning the sound output hole and air vent: Use a soft, clean, and dry brush to gently remove any dirt or earwax from the sound output hole and air vent, and then use a soft cloth to clean the hole and vent.

For details about the positions of the sound output hole and air vent, see Function buttons and ports of the earbuds.

  3. Cleaning the rear cover on the top of the earbud: Use a clean cotton cloth to gently clean the rear cover following the texture lines. Avoid the subwoofer holes when cleaning.

Tips for wearing wireless earbuds

When wearing wireless earbuds, be aware of the following:

  • If the FreeBuds/FreeLace series earbuds have been exposed to sweat, shower gel, shampoo, cosmetics, sunscreen, or other skincare liquids that may irritate the skin, or if you have worn the earbuds during a workout, make sure to clean and dry the earbuds and your ears before wearing again.
  • Check the materials of the earbuds for any substances that you are uncomfortable with or may cause irritation. For details, see Health information about wearing wireless earbuds.

If your ears get red or itchy, feel wet, or become allergic to the earbuds, stop using the earbuds and clean them immediately. If your symptoms still persist, see a doctor and decide whether to continue using your earbuds.
