Can't find a contact in Contacts on my HUAWEI phone/tablet

To troubleshoot, you can follow these steps:

1. Rebuild index data

  • EMUI 9.1 or later: Rebuild index data is not supported. You can rebuild the index by switching the language. Go to Settings > System & updates/System > Language & input > Language and region and change the system language. After the settings take effect, switch back to the previous language.
  • EMUI 9.0.1: Go to Contacts > > Settings > Organize contacts > Rebuild index data.
  • EMUI 5.X/8.X/9.0: Go to Contacts > > Organize contacts > Rebuild index data.

2. Delete the app data of the Contacts app

Go to Settings > Apps & services > Apps, choose Contacts and then Storage, then select CLEAR DATA.

Make sure you delete Contacts data, not Contacts Storage data. Deleting Contacts Storage data will delete your contacts.

3. Search by contact name

If searching for a contact using contact notes does not return results, it means that your phone does not support this kind of search. Try searching for your contact using the contact name.
