If the screen does not turn on or occasionally turns on after you pick up your phone, perform the following steps to troubleshoot:
Screen does not turn on when you pick up the phone
- Enable Wake device/Raise to wake. To do so, open Settings, search for and access Wake device or Raise to wake, and toggle on the switch.

- Open the Health app, end the workout, and try again. To avoid accidental touches, when you start the outdoor running/walking/indoor running mode in the Health app, your phone/tablet will temporarily disable the Raise to wake and Double-tap to wake features.
Screen occasionally turns on when you pick up the phone
- Your movements when picking up the phone may not have been detected.
- Raise the phone at a larger angle, so that the motion is more easily detected by the sensor.
- Raise the phone more quickly, as slow movements may be harder to detect.
- Search for and access Wake device or Raise to wake in Settings, and follow the onscreen instructions for picking up your phone.
- Remove the protective case/cover or non-transparent screen protector (which may block the proximity sensor), and use a standard protective case/cover.
- Update the system to the latest version, and try again.
