Upon first startup, a new device will only display the Recycle Bin and browser icons on the desktop. Other icons may be hidden.

Show or hide desktop icons
- To show desktop icons, right-click the blank area on the desktop and go to
View > 
Show desktop icons. - To hide desktop icons, repeat the preceding operations and deselect
Show desktop icons.
Add the icon of a frequently-used app to the desktop
- Click
on the taskbar at the bottom and go to 
Settings > 
Personalization > 
Themes.

Desktop icon settings. - Select the icon you wish to add to the desktop (for example, This PC), and click .
- If you do not want an icon to be displayed on the desktop, deselect the icon and click .
