My HUAWEI laptop charges slowly or stops charging under heavy loads or in high-temperature environments |
Problem
A HUAWEI laptop charges slowly or stops charging under heavy loads (such as during gameplay) or in high-temperature environments.
Cause
- The device is charged with a non-standard power adapter and charging cable.
- If you run power-intensive processes (such as games) when your computer is charging, the input current of the charger may be insufficient to offset the power consumption of the computer, resulting in slow charging.
- The power plan is set to High performance mode. In this mode, the system power consumption is high, causing the system to charge slowly.
- The computer is used to run power-intensive processes (such as games) while charging in a high-temperature environment, which may cause the computer to overheat and trigger the battery overheating protection mechanism. In this case, the charging current decreases, resulting in slow charging.
- To reduce the impact of temperature on battery lifespan, the charging will stop when the battery temperature exceeds 45°C.
Solution
- Use the power adapter and charging cable that come with the laptop to charge it via its charging port.
- When charging your computer, it is recommended that you close apps that occupy a large amount of memory to reduce CPU usage. To do so, right-click the taskbar on the desktop, go to Task Manager > Processes, then select the corresponding background process and select End task. In addition, avoid placing the device on a desk with the rear cover closely attached to the desktop (for example, by using a heat dissipation bracket) to accelerate heat dissipation.
If this is the first time you open Task Manager, see Opening or hiding the Processes tab in the Task Manager Window.
- Set the power plan to Balanced (recommended). For details, see Creating/Changing a power plan for a HUAWEI computer.
- Avoid using power-intensive apps while charging your device in a high-temperature environment.
- Remove the power adapter and use your device for a period of time. After the battery level decreases, charge your device with the power source again.
- Open Huawei PC Manager, click in the upper right corner, go to , and enable Turbo charge.
If no Turbo charge option is available in Battery, your computer does not support Turbo charge. In this case, skip this solution.
- Update Huawei PC Manager to the latest version. Then, go to to update the drivers to their latest versions.
