Manually setting the IP address of a HUAWEI computer

An IP address refers to an Internet Protocol address, which is a digital label assigned to an Internet Protocol device on the network. Common IP addresses are classified into IPv4 and IPv6 addresses, which can be automatically obtained. You can also manually set an IP address using the following method. (The following describes how to manually set an IPv4 address, and can be used as a reference for setting an IPv6 address.)

  • Automatically obtaining an IP address: If the LAN to which you are connected has a server that uses the Dynamic Host Configuration Protocol (DHCP), you can choose to automatically obtain an IP address. The obtained IP address is dynamic.
  • Manually setting an IP address: If you cannot access the Internet using the automatically obtained IP address, or you need to connect to a printer or shared folder, you can manually set the IP address. After the IP address is set, the IP address of the computer is fixed.

Perform the following operations:

  1. Enter Control Panel in the search box on the taskbar and open it.

  2. Set View by: to Category in the upper right corner, and go to Network and Internet > Network and Sharing Center.

  3. Set the parameters based on your network connection.
    • If your computer is connected to a network, select the network connection and click Properties.

    • If your computer is not connected to a network, click Change adapter settings, right-click Wi-Fi, and choose Properties.

  4. Double-click Internet Protocol Version 4 (TCP/IPv4).

  5. Click Use the following IP address, enter the IP address, subnet mask, default gateway, and DNS server address, and click OK.

    • Exercise caution when you enter the IP address, subnet mask, or default gateway. Incorrect settings may cause the computer to fail to access the Internet.
    • Click Details in step 3 to view your dynamic IP address, subnet mask, and default gateway, and then set your dynamic IP address accordingly or contact your network administrator for assistance.
