- If only the system icons (such as the icons of This PC and Control Panel) cannot be found, it may be because you have not set the icons to display on the desktop. In this case, perform the following steps.
- Right-click a blank area on the desktop, select Personalize from the shortcut menu, and go to Themes > Desktop icon settings.
- Select some of the options in the Desktop Icons tab based on your preferences, then click OK.
- If all of the desktop icons disappear, they may have been hidden. Right-click a blank area on the desktop, select View from the shortcut menu, and then select Show desktop icons to display them.
- If the taskbar is missing along with the desktop icons, Windows Explorer may have broken down. Perform the following steps to restart Windows Explorer.
