- Private network: provides network signal coverage in specific areas and provides communication services for specific users in organization, command, management, production, and dispatching, such as internal communication for enterprises and telemedicine. Your device is discoverable to other devices on the network.
- Public network: as a communication network constructed by network service providers for public users, allows users to use mobile phones to make calls and browse information on web pages in daily life. Your device is hidden from other devices on the network.
Procedure:
- Click the Windows icon
and then the Settings icon
, and select Network & Internet.
- Set based on the system version of your computer.
Here we use a computer that is connected to a wireless network as an example. If your computer is connected to a network in wired or dial-up mode, set in Ethernet or Dial-up mode. The actual interface prevails.
- Windows 11
- Click Properties next to the connected Wi-Fi network.
- Under Network profile type, select Public or Private as needed.
- Click Properties next to the connected Wi-Fi network.

- Select Wi-Fi and click the name of the connected Wi-Fi network.
- Under Network profile, select Public or Private as needed.
- Select Wi-Fi and click the name of the connected Wi-Fi network.
