[HUAWEI] The open water swimming route or distance on my watch/band is inaccurate

  • Open water swim refers to swimming in outdoor bodies of water, such as oceans, rivers, and lakes. Your watch/band is unable to record swimming routes when you swim in outdoor swimming pools, because they are not open water environments. In this case, it is recommended that you select Pool swim mode.

If the issue occurs, try the following:

1 Enable Open water swim in advance

GPS signals are affected by many factors, such as water surface reflections, weather conditions, and swimming strokes.

It is recommended that you enable Open water swim before swimming and wait for the GPS signal to be received before going into the water. This will help improve the route and distance accuracy.

To enable this feature, press the Down button on your watch, visit the menu screen for Workout, and touch to open the Open water swim settings screen.

2 Select your swimming stroke (standard freestyle is recommended)

Currently, swimming routes can only be recorded via GPS, but GPS signals are unavailable underwater. When you wear your watch/band for swimming, it needs to be regularly above water to receive the GPS signal. If your watch/band is immersed in water for a long time due to your swimming motion (such as if you swim breaststroke or bent-arm freestyle), your watch/band will be unable to receive a GPS signal, which may lead to inaccurate/incomplete route and distance data.

We will continue to optimize the positioning feature of the watch/band. Remember to update your watch/band and the Huawei Health app whenever new versions are available.
