Setting a default search engine in Microsoft Edge on my computer

Microsoft Edge is a secure and fast browser designed specifically for Windows. It enables users to access a wide range of features, including annotation and dictionary tools, a read aloud function, and direct sketching and writing on web pages. You can perform the following operations to set the default search engine in Microsoft Edge.

  • The UI and operations will vary slightly depending on your browser version. The following uses Microsoft Edge 114.0.1823.43 as an example.
  • For more details, go to Microsoft's official website: https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/edge.
  1. Open Microsoft Edge and click the More icon () in the upper right corner. Then click Settings.

  2. Click Privacy, search, and services, slide the page to the bottom, and select Address bar and search.

  3. Select your desired default search engine from the drop-down list next to Search engine used in the address bar. The following uses Sogou as an example.

  4. If the search engine you need is not found, go to Manage search engines > Add, follow the onscreen instructions to add a search engine, and then perform step 3 to set the default search engine.

  5. Choose to use a search box or address bar to search on a new tab page based on your search habits.
    • If you select Address bar, the default search engine (such as Sogou) that you set is used for search no matter whether you enter content in the search box or in the address bar.

    • If you select Search box (recommended), when you enter content in the search box, the search engine is still Bing by default. When you enter content in the address bar, the default search engine (such as Sogou) that you set is used for search.
