[HUAWEI] The ECG feature on my watch can't be activated or used for measurements/My watch's ECG measurements are inaccurate

Currently, ECG is only supported in certain countries/regions, and countries/regions with CE marking do not support measurements for atrial premature beat and ventricular premature beat. For details, see Regions/Countries where the ECG function of Huawei wearable devices is available.

Measurement precautions:

  • The ECG feature is not recommended for users under the age of 18, or users who have pacemakers or other implantable devices.

The ECG waveform for users with pacemakers will differ from that for users without pacemakers. Currently, HUAWEI ECG-capable watches do not support ECG readings for users with pacemakers.

  • Avoid using the ECG feature in environments with a strong electromagnetic field.
  • The ECG feature isn't capable of detecting heart attacks and related complications. Please seek timely medical assistance if you feel pain, tightness, or pressure in your chest, or experience any other symptoms.

If measurement failure or inaccurate measurements occurs when you are using ECG on your watch, troubleshoot the issue according to the following:

Instructions for correct measurements

  • Wearing mode
    • Make sure that you are wearing your watch correctly. During ECG measurements, make sure that the bottom electrode on your watch is in contact with your wrist, and that the side electrode is in contact with a finger on your other hand.

    • Make sure that the watch is being worn correctly, with the watch screen facing upward, and positioned slightly above your wrist bone. Make sure that your watch is securely fastened, with the strap sufficiently tightened, so that you get accurate ECG measurements.

    • Make sure that you are wearing the watch on the same arm as that set in the wearing mode. You can adjust the wearing mode in the watch's ECG app (by going to ECG > Settings > Wearing mode).

  • Correct posture during measurements

Sit down and rest your arm on a flat surface, for example on a table or in your lap.

If it is inconvenient for you to sit down, you can lie flat. Make sure that your watch is worn correctly to ensure that measurements are accurate.

  • Keep your finger moist

Dry skin may affect the accuracy of measurements. It is recommended that you moisten your finger to enhance conductivity.

  • During measurement

During measurements, relax your arm, and gently touch the electrode on the side of the watch frame. Do not use a lot of force to squeeze the electrode. Breathe evenly and try to avoid speaking.

If an individual measurement fails, keep your finger steady and gently touch the electrode on the side of the watch frame for at least 5 seconds to start a new the measurement.

Enter your correct personal information

  • Enter accurate personal information (such as gender and age) in the Huawei Health app.
  • Use your HUAWEI ID to link your watch for measurements.

Take the effect of certain body features into account

  • Hair, tattoos, or scars on your arm can affect measurement accuracy, or prevent successful measurements entirely. It is recommended that you wear your watch on the arm that has fewer such features.
  • Dirt on the finger can lead to measurement failure or unstable ECG signals. It is recommended that you clean your finger with clean water.

Make sure that there are no foreign objects on the electrode

Check whether the gap between the side electrode and the watch frame is clean, clean that area with a moist towel on a regular basis, and wait for it to dry before performing measurements.

Interpreting ECG results

  • Generally speaking, arrhythmia is sporadic. If no arrhythmia is detected during the measurement, the measurement result will be "Sinus rhythm", and no abnormalities.
  • The ECG feature can screen for three types of arrhythmia: atrial fibrillation (A-fib), atrial premature beat, ventricular premature beat.
  • If the ECG result is inconclusive, follow the onscreen instructions.
    • If there is no heart rate data displayed on your watch's diagnosis screen

The signal quality is poor. Keep still and keep your finger moist. Avoid speaking or moving your finger. Repeat the measurement.

    • If the heart rate data displayed on your watch's diagnosis screen is greater than 110 beats/min

ECG analysis is affected when your heart rate is too high. If you have just completed a workout, take a 30-minute break before measuring your heart rate. If you repeatedly get this result or feel uncomfortable, please seek timely medical assistance.

    • If the heart rate data displayed on your watch's diagnosis screen is lower than 50 beats/min

ECG analysis is affected when your heart rate is too low. If you repeatedly get this result or feel uncomfortable, please seek timely medical assistance.

    • If the heart rate data displayed on your watch's diagnosis screen is greater than 50 beats/min and less than 110 beats/min

No accurate analysis result is displayed. ECG results are for reference only. If you repeatedly get this result and feel uncomfortable, please seek timely medical assistance.

If this issue persists, bring your device and proof of purchase to an authorized Huawei Customer Service Center for assistance.
