If your old router can access the Internet but does not support HUAWEI WiFi Mesh+, you can connect the HUAWEI router to the old router and set it as the secondary router to provide increased Wi-Fi coverage.
Preparation: Ensure that the old router can properly access the Internet, and that the HUAWEI router is new or has been restored to factory settings.
- Connecting the cables: Connect an Ethernet cable from the WAN port of the HUAWEI router to a LAN port on the old router, then power on the HUAWEI router.
If the router features self-adaptive network ports, you do not need to distinguish the WAN port from the LAN port.
- Connecting to Wi-Fi: Connect your phone or computer to the default Wi-Fi network of the HUAWEI router (the Wi-Fi name should start with "HUAWEI" and does not require a password).
- Configuring the router
- Open an internet browser on your phone or computer, enter the default IP address in your browser address bar and log in to your router's web-based management page (check the nameplate at the bottom of the router for the default IP address)
- Touch GET STARTED > Extend a Wi-Fi network (relay) (skip this step if you cannot find such an option)> Wired network > Done.
- Follow the onscreen instructions, set the Wi-Fi name, Wi-Fi password, and login password of the router, and click Next.( The steps in the following figures are performed on a smartphone, which are very similar to the operations on a computer).
