FreeScript usage guide

1. Using the FreeScript feature

FreeScript allows you to write text in most text boxes using a stylus. Current Language and English can be used at the same time. Go to Setting>Accessibility features>Stylus>FreeScript and turn on the switch. You can also view animations or touch MORE STYLUS TIPS in blue to learn more about the related features.

2. Precautions for using FreeScript

1. Only tablets running HarmonyOS 2.0 are compatible with the stylus. Phones cannot work with the stylus because they do not support handwriting recognition.

2. You need to use a stylus to write. FreeScript will not work when you use your finger to write.

3. You need to put the stylus tip in or near a text box. Otherwise, your operation may be identified as a misoperation.

4. FreeScript is not supported in some text boxes in apps such as security and password apps and games, as well as some customized text boxes in apps such as Quark Browser.

3. Using FreeScript to select, delete, edit, or perform other operations

1. Global stylus gestures can be used together with FreeScript to select or delete text as well as to insert or merge spaces, as shown in the following figures.

2. Pay attention to the following precautions while using the stylus:

a. Select: Draw a straight horizontal line on text to select it. It is recommended that straight lines are drawn as straight as possible to increase the selection success rate.

b. Delete: Draw a wavy line on text to delete it. It is recommended that the amplitude of wave lines is as high as possible to increase the deletion success rate.

c. Insert: Draw a vertical line in the middle of text to insert a space.

d. Merge: Draw a vertical line between spaces to merge them.

4. Resolving low recognition rates, inaccurate recognition, and incorrect recognition for FreeScript

FreeScript uses a recognition algorithm that is cutting-edge in the industry. However, due to differences in writing habits and font shapes between individuals, recognition cannot be 100% accurate. If handwriting recognition is frequently incorrect, you are advised to perform the following operations:

1. Reduce excessively continuous strokes. Writing based on the stroke order will significantly increase the recognition success rate.

2. Keep the tilt angle to 15 degrees or less and write neatly.

3. Arrange the text in sequence and do not write on alternate lines.

4. Use a consistent font size. There should not be too much difference in the font size of a sentence.

5. Do not write vertically. Writing vertically will reduce the recognition success rate.

5. Resolving the high handwriting color contrast for FreeScript

It is normal that there is a handwriting color contrast. The system adjusts the handwriting color in real time based on the background color of the screen to provide clear handwriting. If you do not like the handwriting, go to Settings>Accessibility features>Stylus>FreeScript and disable real-time adjustment of the handwriting color.

6. Exiting FreeScript

Tap anywhere on the screen with your finger to exit.

7. List of languages supported for FreeScript

In Chinese mode, only Chinese and English are recognized. To identify other languages, you need to set the system language first. Go to Settings > System and Updates > Languages and Input Methods > Languages and Regions, set the language to the appropriate language, and then try writing again.
