The following content applies only to tablets. If you are using a 2-in-1 laptop, see Pair my HUAWEI M-Pencil (2nd generation) stylus with my 2-in-1 laptop.
- Make sure that your M-Pencil can be used on your tablet.
Make sure that your M-Pencil can be paired with your tablet by referring to HUAWEI tablet/laptop models that support HUAWEI styluses.
It is recommended that you update your tablet to the latest system version. An early system version may cause pairing failure.
- Pair your M-Pencil with your tablet.
- On your tablet, enable Bluetooth (go to ) or NearLink (go to ).
If both your stylus and tablet support NearLink, the stylus will be preferentially paired with the tablet via NearLink. If either of them does not support NearLink, Bluetooth pairing will be used.
- Attach your stylus to your tablet by referring to the following table, and touch CONNECT in the displayed dialog box.

Attach the notch of the stylus to the right side of the top edge (where the volume buttons are located) of the tablet, as shown in position ① in the following figure.
If the M-Pencil is attached to a wrong position, the pairing will fail.

Attach the notch of the stylus to the middle of the top edge (where the volume buttons are located) of the tablet, as shown in position ② in the following figure.
If the M-Pencil is attached to a wrong position, the pairing will fail.
- Attachment via a charger
Attach the stylus to a charger and connect the charger to the tablet for pairing and charging. After the connection is successful, you can detach the stylus from the charger for independent usage.

- On your tablet, enable Bluetooth (go to ) or NearLink (go to ).
- Check the battery level of your stylus.
Once successfully attached, the stylus's charging status will display onscreen. If your tablet's battery level exceeds 20%, the stylus attached to the device will be charged regardless of whether the screen is on or off.
When the stylus is paired with the tablet, you can check the stylus's battery level in any of the following ways:
- Method 1: Go to Settings > Accessibility features > Stylus. The battery level and charging status of the stylus are displayed on the screen. A lightning icon indicates that the stylus is being charged.
- Method 2: Remove the stylus and reattach it. Check the battery level in the prompt.
