Unable to enroll a fingerprint

There are multiple reasons why fingerprint enrollment may not have worked. Try the following methods to troubleshoot:

Check whether the Fingerprint ID option is available in Settings

Go to Settings > Biometrics & password > Fingerprint ID on your phone and see if the Fingerprint ID option is available. If not, back up your data and take your phone and proof of purchase to an authorized Huawei Customer Service Center for assistance. If Fingerprint ID is available, proceed with the following steps.

Check if your phone is covered with a third-party screen protector

The in-screen optical fingerprint sensor picks up light reflected off your fingerprint. If a non-standard screen protector has been installed, it might reduce the amount of light that can reach the screen and weaken the signal reception by the fingerprint sensor, resulting in a failure to unlock your phone. It is recommended that you do not install third-party screen protectors. Alternatively, take your phone to an authorized Huawei Customer Service Center for a screen protector to be installed for free. Then re-enroll your fingerprint and try again. (After you install a new screen protector, the amount of light that can reach the screen and fingerprint recognition via the screen protector will change. You will need to re-enroll your fingerprint for better recognition.)

Make sure your finger and the fingerprint sensor area are clean

Sweat, water, dirt, or abrasions on your finger or in the fingerprint sensor area will affect the quality of the fingerprint image.

If the issue persists

If the issue persists, restart your phone and try again. If your fingerprint still fails to be enrolled, back up your data and take your device and proof of purchase to an authorized Huawei Customer Service Center for assistance.
