Adding and using printers in the Huawei Print client

The HUAWEI printer driver is integrated into the Huawei Print client and cannot be downloaded separately. You can download and install the Huawei Print client on your computer depending on which computer system you have. After connecting to a printer, you can quickly and easily print, copy, and scan files.

The display on the operation screen may vary depending on the computer system and software version. Please act according to the case at hand.

To do this, perform the following steps:

Step 1: Download the version of the Huawei Print client that corresponds to your computer system.

1. Downloading and installing the Huawei Print client on a Windows computer

  1. Visit the HUAWEI Support website (https://consumer.huawei.com/en/support/), and enter the name of your product in the search bar to search for the product. Select your product from the search results to go to the product service and support details page. Select Software Download, and download the Huawei Print client installation package that corresponds with your computer system.

  2. After the download is complete, decompress the PixLab_Series for Windows xx_xxx.zip file (xx_xxx indicates the version). The download package is stored in the download path set in the browser settings. You can open the browser settings page and view the downloaded package in the download area.

If you want to install the Huawei Print client on another hard drive, for example the D drive, copy the installation package to the corresponding folder directory and extract the contents of the zip folder to the desired folder. Do not make the installation path too long. If the path contains more than 256 characters, the installation may fail.

  3. Unzip the PixLab_Series for Windows xx_xxx.rar file. Then double-click the PixLab_Series for Windows xx_xxx.exe file. A pop-up window with printer connection methods will be displayed. Select a connection method by referring to the Step 2: Select a connection method when installing the Huawei Print client section below.

2. Downloading and installing the Huawei Print client on a macOS computer

  2. After the download is complete, double-click the HUAWEI_PixLab_Series Mac Installer xx_xxx.zip file to decompress it. (xx_xxx indicates the version. The actual UI prevails.) The download package is stored in the download path set in the browser settings. You can open the browser settings page and view the downloaded package in the download area.

  3. In the unzipped folder, double-click HUAWEI PixLab series and confirm to open it in the pop-up window.

  4. On the Huawei Print client connection window, select a connection method by referring to the Step 2: Select a connection method when installing the Huawei Print client section below.

Step 2: Select a connection method when installing the Huawei Print client

In the printer connection method window, select Agree to the Huawei Print User Agreement and select a connection method as required.

The printer can be configured with the network during the connection Via hotspot or With a USB cable.
  • Via hotspot: The printer hotspot is used for network communication. This is a wireless network configuration method (meaning that no cable is required) which is suitable for the first network configuration of the printer.
  • With a USB cable: The computer is connected to the printer via a USB cable, which is a wired network connection method.

Over LAN: The printer cannot be configured with the network over LAN. The printer should already be configured with the network, and the computer and printer should be on the same LAN. This method is appropriate in the case where multiple computers use the same printer on the same LAN.

Method 1: Connect to the printer with a USB cable. (The printer can be configured with or without a network. You can assign a network to the printer during the connection.)

  1. Select With a USB cable. The system will prompt you to use a USB cable to connect the printer to the computer. Use the USB cable that came with the printer to connect your computer to the printer. Insert the USB-B port of the USB cable into the USB-B port of the printer and the USB-A port into the USB-A port of the computer. Establish a connection and proceed to the next step.

  2. Once the settings are complete, the network configuration page will be displayed. Select the network to be connected, enter the password, and click NEXT.

If your printer has been configured with a network, the new network that you select will be configured for the printer. If you do not need to reconfigure the network, or you want to use the printer directly through the USB cable without adding the printer to the LAN, you can skip the network configuration step.

  3. Once the configuration is completed, the system will display a message indicating that the installation has been successful. You can print a test page to check whether the printer works properly.

There is no option to print a test page when finishing a connection on a Mac computer. Once you have finished following the preceding steps to establish a connection, close the installation page. The login page of the Mac computer is then displayed. After logging in, select the HUAWEI printer icon on the launchpad to open the Huawei Print client.

Method 2: Search for and connect to the printer over LAN. (The printer should already be connected to a network, and the computer and printer should be on the same LAN.)

  1. The printer is configured with the network through other devices or connected to a wired network and is on the same LAN as the computer.
  2. In the printer connection method window, click Over LAN.

  3. From the search results, select the HUAWEI printer you want to connect, and click CONNECT.

    • The four digits following the printer name are the serial number of the printer, which you can find on the nameplate on the back of the printer.
    • 00 and 01 indicate the IPv4 and IPv6 addresses of the printer, respectively. You can select either of them.

  4. Once the configuration is completed, the system will display a message indicating that the installation has been successful. You can print a test page to check whether the printer works properly.

Method 3: Using a hotspot (The printer should be ready for network configuration. You can assign a network to the printer during the connection.)

Only computers running Windows support this connection method.

  1. If the Network button of the printer flashes a white light, the network is being configured. In this case, you can select a printer hotspot for connection.

If the Network button of the printer displays a steady white light, the printer is already connected to the Internet. You can press and hold the Network button for more than 3 seconds to reset the network.

  2. In the printer connection method window, select Via hotspot, and then follow the onscreen instructions to connect to the printer hotspot.

  3. The printer automatically broadcasts a hotspot when it is powered on. Press and hold the Start button of the printer for 3 seconds to print the system information page. On the system information page, check the network service set identifier SSID (containing DIRECT) and the printer hotspot passphrase on the Soft AP section.

After the printer has been restarted, the printer's hotspot network identifier and passphrase will change.

  4. On your computer, click the network icon in the taskbar. In the network list, select the printer name (the SSID on the information page containing DIRECT). When entering the PIN, select Connect using a security key instead and enter the printer hotspot passphrase (found on the information page) to finish the connection.

  5. After connecting to the hotspot, touch NEXT in the Connect to printer hotspot window.

  6. A pop-up window for network configuration will be displayed. Select the network to be connected, enter the password, and then select NEXT.

The network to be connected must be a 2.4 GHz network that has been connected to the computer. If the target network cannot be found in the drop-down list of network names, disconnect the computer from the printer hotspot, connect the computer to the target network again, reconnect the computer to the printer hotspot, then configure the network.

  7. Once the configuration is completed, the system will display a message indicating that the installation has been successful. You can print a test page to check whether the printer works properly.

Step 3: Use the printer
