Custom charging limit in the battery settings on my HUAWEI phone/tablet
Custom charging limit in the battery settings on my HUAWEI phone/tablet |
The lifespan of a battery is closely related to the charging routine. Reducing the time that the battery is fully charged can slow down the battery aging. Custom charging limit has been added to the battery module. This feature can help prolong your battery's lifespan.
Setting method:
Go to Settings > Battery > Battery health > Custom charging limit to set the maximum battery level to 70%, 80%, 90%, or 100%. It is recommended that you set a value between 70% and 90% for daily use.
This feature is disabled by default. You can set the maximum battery level as desired. For the device models that support Custom charging limit, please see Product feature (EMUI 9.0 and later).
When Custom charging limit is enabled (maximum battery level set to a value below 100%), a "Custom charging is on" notification will display each time the device charges, and charging will automatically stop once the battery level reaches the preset maximum level. To have your device fully charged, tap Fully charge on the notification.
This feature and the user interface may vary depending on the device and software version.

Description |
My device fully charges occasionally even if I have set a custom charging limit of 70%, 80%, or 90% |
Custom charging limit is a new feature and is supported only on devices running HarmonyOS 4.3.1 or later. After the setting, your device will fully charge occasionally to evaluate the accurate battery status, which is normal. |
The battery level my device can finally reach is slightly different from the custom charging limit I set |
Due to your phone/tablet's power consumption, measurement error, or battery balancing, the battery level may be 1% to 3% different from the custom charging limit when charging stops, which is normal. |
What are the key differences between Custom charging limit and Smart charge? |
Both features help slow down battery aging and prolong the battery lifespan. Smart charge learns from your charging routine and authorizes the system to charge the battery to 80% as needed. Custom charging limit allows you to set a maximum battery level based on your own personal needs. Custom charging limit and Smart charge cannot be enabled or disabled at the same time. If one of them is enabled, the other will be disabled automatically. |
Which charging modes does Custom charging limit support? |
When Custom charging limit is enabled (maximum battery level set to a value below 100%), all charging modes, including wired charging, wireless charging, in-car charging, and USB charging, can trigger your device to charge to the custom charging limit. |
Can I disable the "Custom charging is on" notification? |
The notification will only disappear when you tap Fully charge or halt the charging. It plays no sound, and is only visible after you swipe down from the top edge of the screen to display the notification panel when the device is charging with the screen locked or off. |
Will Custom charging limit affect the charging speed and power, or cause my device to heat up? |
No. Custom charging limit only prevents your device from being charged when the battery level has reached the preset maximum value. Therefore, it will not affect the charging speed and power, or cause your device to heat up. |
In which scenarios is Custom charging limit preferentially used? What is the recommended value for this feature? |
If your tablet/phone needs to connect to its charger for a long time, such as during an online class, navigation, or live stream, 70% (minimum) is recommended. If you do not connect your device to the charger for a long time, 80% is recommended for daily use. You can also tap Fully charge on the notification panel to have your battery fully charged. |
Will the custom charging mode work after my device is powered off? |
It will work as usual (except in special scenarios). It is recommended that you charge your device after it is powered on. |
