Managing Windows Defender Firewall on the computer

Windows Defender Firewall can help prevent hackers or malicious software from gaining access to your computer through the Internet or a network.

  • To disable Windows Defender Firewall:
    1. Enter "control panel" in the search box on the taskbar and open Control Panel.

    2. Click System and Security.

    3. Click Windows Defender Firewall.

    4. Click Turn Windows Defender Firewall on or off.

    5. Select Turn off Windows Defender Firewall (not recommended).

  • To reset Windows Defender Firewall settings:
    1. Enter "control panel" in the search box on the taskbar and open Control Panel.

    2. Click System and Security.

    3. Click Windows Defender Firewall.

    4. Click Restore defaults and follow the onscreen instructions to perform operations.

      You can also press Win + I to open the Settings screen, go to Privacy & security > Windows Security > Firewall & network protection > Restore firewalls to default, and follow the onscreen instructions to finish configuring the settings.
