An error occurs when I use an input method on my HUAWEI computer

Problem

  • After the computer is powered on and enters Windows or wakes up from Sleep mode, there is a possibility that the user cannot enter characters or numbers using the Microsoft input method, but Windows function keys (for example, Win+D and F1–F12) work properly.
  • When the user uses the Microsoft input method in Chinese input mode, the text result of pressing the backslash (\) key on the keyboard is still "\" instead of a numeration comma.
  • When the Microsoft input method is used, the characters in the candidates window suddenly disappear and the candidates window unexpectedly exits, or the characters cannot be entered.
  • Characters in the candidates window of the Sogou input method are displayed as garbled characters, or the input characters are automatically deleted.
  • When the user uses an input method to input text, the text in the candidates window is not completely displayed.

Cause

There is a compatibility issue with the input method in question.

Solution

Method 1:

Back up important data, then install the Windows system update and patch. For details, see Updating to a higher version of Windows on the Huawei official website. The latest patch was released on the Microsoft official website on April 25, which has resolved issues in some scenarios. This patch can only resolve some compatibility issues with the input method. If the issue in question persists, try method 2 or 3.

Method 2:

Perform the following steps to enable the compatibility mode and enable the compatibility option to use the Microsoft input method of an earlier version. The procedure is as follows:

  1. Right-click the input method and select Settings.

  2. Click General.

  3. On the displayed window, drag down and turn on the Compatibility switch.

Method 3:

  1. If only the Microsoft input method is abnormal, use another third-party input method, such as the QQ input method or Baidu input method, and set the third-party input method with better compatibility as the default input method. To change the default input method, refer to either of the following knowledge.

Changing the default input method on a Windows 10 computer

Changing the default input method on a Windows 11 computer

Microsoft is about to release a major RTM version in June 2024 to fix this issue. If you have any questions, please contact Microsoft customer service for further consultation and assistance. You can also log in to the Microsoft official website, click Contact Microsoft at the bottom of the home page, and follow the onscreen instructions for assistance.

  1. If all input methods (including third-party input methods and the Microsoft input method) do not work properly, back up your data, record your Office account, and use F10 to restore your computer to its factory settings. If the issue remains unresolved, take your device and proof of purchase to an authorized Huawei Customer Service Center for assistance. (Tip: Feel free to call the Huawei consumer service hotline for assistance before going to a Huawei Customer Service Center.) We will do our best to address your needs.
