Waking up the computer using an external mouse

  1. Right-click the Windows icon and select Device Manager.

  2. Expand the options in Mice and other pointing devices. Right-click the option for an external mouse and select Properties.

For a laptop connected to an external mouse, two HID-compliant mouse items are listed in Mice and other pointing devices, but only the external mouse can be used to wake your computer. To check whether a device is an external mouse, go to Properties > General, and check its Location information. An external mouse will be displayed as on USB Input Device in this field.

  3. Select Allow this device to wake the computer on the Power Management tab in the displayed HID-compliant mouse Properties window and click OK.
