Unable to find images or videos on my HUAWEI phone/tablet

If you cannot find the images or videos in Gallery, try the following:

1. Enable Sync albums to Cloud

Cause: Some images can only be loaded and displayed when Sync albums to Cloud is enabled.

Operation:

  1. Open Gallery, tap the four-dot icon in the upper right corner, and go to Settings > Sync Gallery
  2. After enabling Sync albums to Cloud (or Cloud), swipe down on the Photos screen to sync and view the images.

2. Retrieve images that have been accidentally deleted

Note: Images deleted by mistake will be retained in the Recently deleted section for 30 days. These images will be permanently deleted after 30 days. Recently deleted won't be displayed if you haven't deleted anything recently.

Operation:

  1. Go to Gallery > Albums > Recently deleted.
  2. Press and hold the image that was deleted by mistake, and tap Restore.

3. Disable Hide albums and Blocked albums or cancel hiding

If the device supports Hidden items/Blocked albums and the feature has been enabled:

Disable hidden albums

Disable Blocked albums

  1. Go to the Albums tab, tap the four-dot icon in the upper right corner, and select Hidden items.
  2. Disable hidden albums.
  1. Go to the Albums tab and access the Others list.
  2. Tap View blocked albums and then the unblock switch next to the album.

4. Search in PrivateSpace/Users

PrivateSpace: Go to Settings > Privacy/Security & privacy > PrivateSpace.

Users: Go to Settings > Users & accounts > Users.

5. Search in Cloud

Prerequisite: You have logged in to your HUAWEI ID on the device and enabled Sync Gallery/Sync albums to Cloud in Gallery.

Note: If you log in to the same account on multiple devices and delete synced images/videos on one device, the deletion will also be synced to other devices.

Operation: In this case, log in to the Cloud official website (cloud.huawei.com), select Desktop version, and go to Gallery > Albums > Recently deleted to restore the images/videos.

6. Search in Files

  1. Go to Files > Me > Settings, and enable Show hidden files and Show system-hidden files.
  2. Open the directory based on the image source:
    • Taken using Camera: Files > Browse > Phone/My tablet (Internal storage) > DCIM > Camera.
  3. Check whether the .nomedia file or folder exists in the preceding directory. If so, delete it and open Gallery again.

7. Clear media storage and Gallery data (applicable only to HarmonyOS 4.X and earlier versions)

  1. Open Settings, and search for and access Apps.
  2. Tap the four-dot icon in the upper right corner and then Show system processes.
  3. Select Media Storage and Gallery, and go to Storage > Clear data.

Notes:

  • After the Media Storage data is deleted, you need to reset the ringtone for incoming calls and the notification ringtone. The system will rescan images. Please wait for a while before you open Gallery again.
  • Deleting Gallery and Media Storage data will not delete photos in Gallery, but will delete the My favorites, Highlights, and Discover albums. The Highlights and Discover albums will be automatically created when your tablet/phone has been charged for some time with its screen off. You'll need to add photos to the My favorites album again. The custom category of Hidden items is in the Restore album.
