3 Managing your privacy

To help you manage your privacy, we have provided you with a variety of tools and features. You can protect your device and HUAWEI ID, as well as have complete control over your personal data and location shared with other devices or apps.

3.1 Protecting your device

Lock screen password

You can enhance the security of your device with a lock screen password. Your lock screen password will be created and processed in a secure, isolated, and trusted environment. In addition, we have limited the number of password entry attempts to prevent your password from being forcibly cracked. Your lock screen password will also be used to encrypt and protect your personal data, which can effectively prevent unauthorized storage of data without a password verification.

Fingerprint

Your fingerprint bears your inherent physiological characteristics and can be used in authentication and other important occasions. For example, you can use your fingerprint to unlock the screen of your HUAWEI device.

The entire process of fingerprint image entry and pre-processing, fingerprint feature extraction, fingerprint template generation, and fingerprint authentication are all conducted in a secure, isolated, and trusted environment.

The fingerprint images will then be converted into feature templates, encrypted, and stored to a secure and isolated location that is not accessible by Android or any other apps. Your fingerprint data will maintain in the isolated zone and will not be stored to the cloud server or anywhere else on your device.

Find My Phone

You can log in to your Google account through Google Mobile Services or the official Google website and use a similar service as Find My Phone.

In addition, HUAWEI devices offer a Device activation lock feature. Device activation lock will automatically activate as soon as Find My Phone is enabled. If your device is lost and your stored data is forcibly cleared by an unauthorized user, Device activation lock will require your device to authenticate through your Google account in order to re-activate upon restarting. This prevents others from activating your device without your authorization.

PrivateSpace

To protect your privacy, we have provided you with a separate encrypted space that is completely isolated from your Main Space - your own PrivateSpace. The data in your PrivateSpace cannot be accessed by your Main Space. In your PrivateSpace, you can store your most important data, as well as conveniently transfer files (such as video, audio, and image files) between your PrivateSpace and Main Space.

You can also enter your PrivateSpace password or fingerprint from the lock screen for quick and easy access. There is no other way to access your PrivateSpace, so you can rest assured that your data is safe and secure from unauthorized users.

Device interconnection

You can safely and conveniently connect to other devices on the same HUAWEI ID, as well as share files or mobile hotspots through Bluetooth, Wi-Fi, HUAWEI Share, and other connections. HUAWEI can verify whether different devices logged in to the same HUAWEI ID are trusted devices and ensure the data security.

When HUAWEI devices logged in to the same HUAWEI ID interconnects, a trusted public key authentication protocol is used to authenticate and ensure the validity of the device. To ensure data security, data transfers between devices will be encrypted with a key negotiated by both parties.

One-touch Internet access

3.2 Protecting your HUAWEI ID

HUAWEI ID

Your HUAWEI ID is used to access all available HUAWEI services. You can log in to your HUAWEI ID to access AppGallery, HUAWEI Video, HUAWEI Music, and much more. It is very important to protect your HUAWEI ID and to prevent unauthorized users from accessing your account. To accomplish this, HUAWEI requires the users to create strong and uncommonly-used passwords that are at least eight characters in length, containing both uppercase and lowercase letters and numbers. Based on this rule, users can create passwords that are more secure by adding more characters and punctuations with a maximum limit of up to 32 characters.

Two-factor authentication

Two-factor authentication is an extra layer of account protection and the best way to keep your HUAWEI ID secure.

With this extra layer of account protection, your HUAWEI ID can only be accessed through your trusted devices. When you log in to a new device with your HUAWEI ID, you will be required to enter your password and a security verification code. Completing the verification indicates that you trust this device. For example, if you already own a HUAWEI M2, and you attempt to log in to your newly purchased HUAWEI P10 with your HUAWEI ID, you will be prompted to enter your password and the security verification code that appears on your HUAWEI M2. This authentication mechanism significantly enhances the security of your HUAWEI ID and the use of HUAWEI ID services (such as HUAWEI My Cloud, AppGallery, and more).

How HUAWEI handles the personal data of children Our products, websites and services are primarily intended for adults. Children are not allowed to create their own user account without the consent of parents or guardians. Where a child's personal data is collected with parental consent, we will only use or disclose this data if the law permits it, if explicit permission is given by parents or guardians or if it is necessary to protect the child. Although the definition of a child may vary according to local laws and customs, we consider any person under the age of 13 years to be a child. If HUAWEI learns that it has collected a child's personal data without first obtaining verifiable parental consent, it will take steps to delete the data within the shortest possible delay. 7.
