1. Consult the home appliance manufacturer to confirm whether the home appliance remote control adopts an infrared remote control mechanism. You can also open the Camera on your phone and aim it at the infrared sensor of the home appliance remote control, and then press a home appliance remote control button. If the infrared light is visible through your phone camera, the home appliance is in infrared remote control mode.

2. Check whether the home appliance belongs to one of the six following categories: TV, set-top box, DVD, camera, projector, and network box. For air conditioners or other types of appliances, customized programing will not be available. Since one single button of an air conditioner remote control can control multiple states and has a more complex infrared waveform, key programing is unavailable for air conditioner remote controls. For example, the temperature adjustment between 16°C and 17°C and between 17°C and 18°C require two different waveforms.

3. Ensure that the emission point of the home appliance remote control is directly aligned with the infrared receiver at the top of your phone during key programing, and that both devices remain still. Press the home appliance remote control button one time, and try from slightly different angles and different distances if necessary.
