Inaccurate location results of a HUAWEI kids watch

If HUAWEI FamCare cannot locate the watch's latest position for a long time, refer to Unable to locate the kids watch in the HUAWEI FamCare app for troubleshooting.

After the watch is successfully located in HUAWEI FamCare, the positioning mode will be displayed. Please troubleshoot based on the positioning mode. (The watch's positioning mode automatically switches based on your environment and cannot be set separately.)

To check the positioning mode:

Method 1 (for current real-time positioning deviation): Go to HUAWEI FamCare > Protection, and check the current location of the watch and then the positioning mode icon on the left of the address bar, as shown in the following figure. If the satellite icon is displayed, satellite positioning is being used. If the globe icon is displayed, network positioning is being used.

Method 2 (for footprint deviation on the Historical track screen): Go to HUAWEI FamCare > Protection > Historical track, switch to the date when the footprint is inaccurate, and tap the inaccurate footprint to view the location information and positioning mode (such as network positioning or satellite positioning).

Inaccurate satellite positioning

In an open outdoor environment without obstructions, the watch provides satellite positioning with a precision of 10 to 30 meters. Under ideal conditions, the precision can improve to 5 meters. If the satellite positioning accuracy is low, perform the following operations:

  • Check whether the watch is in an outdoor environment with a weak satellite signal or whether there are obstructions such as high-rise buildings, surface reflections from large bodies of water like lakes or seas, signal reflections, or interference from metal objects. If so, satellite positioning may deviate.
  • If satellite positioning for the watch frequently deviates by over 200 meters in an open outdoor environment without obstructions, take the watch and proof of purchase to an authorized Huawei Customer Service Center for assistance.

Inaccurate network positioning

If the watch is located deep indoors and cannot find any satellite signals or the satellite signal is weak, it will use network positioning (base station + Wi-Fi). The result of locating the watch depends on the Wi-Fi/base station information in the environment where the watch is located. If the obtained Wi-Fi/base station information is inaccurate or differs greatly from the actual location, the network positioning may deviate.

  • The network positioning precision is generally dozens of meters or even more than 100 meters, which is lower than the satellite positioning precision.

If the watch cannot be accurately located at home or school, set these locations as frequent locations. To do so, go to HUAWEI FamCare > Protection, tap the four-dot icon in the upper right corner, and select Frequent locations.

  • If the watch is in a remote environment (for example, in a mountainous area or near a large body of water), it will only be able to find a small number of available Wi-Fi networks/base stations nearby, which can make network positioning less accurate.

If the issue persists
