The network icon on my HUAWEI computer displays as a small earth icon

Problem

The Wi-Fi icon on the computer displays as a small earth icon and the computer is unable to connect to a hotspot.

Cause

  • The Wi-Fi driver is incorrectly configured.
  • Error code 10 displays in Network adapters, indicating that the Wi-Fi module hardware is faulty.
  • Error code 56 displays in Network adapters because the registry is incorrect due to the installation of a virtual machine (VM) or other software. As a result, the driver cannot be identified.
  • The system fails to identify the Wi-Fi driver because the driver is installed without a Huawei digital signature.

Solution

Check whether the network adapter has an error code. If so, check the error code and perform the following operations:

Right-click the Windows icon and go to Device Manager > Network adapters. Check whether the Wi-Fi driver (here we'll use Intel(R) Wireless-AC 9560 as an example) exists, check the device status, and check whether an error code exists and what it is.

  • Intel network adapter driver: Intel(R) Wireless-AC 9560 or Intel(R) Wi-Fi 6 AX20*.
  • AMD network adapter driver: Realtek 8822CE Wireless LAN 802.11ac PCI-E NIC or Intel(R) Wi-Fi 6 AX201.
  • HUAWEI MateBook E Go network adapter driver: Qualcomm QCA639x Wi-Fi 6 Dual Band Simultaneous (DBS) Network Adapter, or Qualcomm WCN685x Wi-Fi 6E Dual Band Simultaneous (DBS) WiFiCx Network Adapter.

1. The device is running properly.

2. Error code 10 displays.

3. Error code 56 displays.

4. Error code 52 displays.

5. Other error codes display.

  • If the device is running properly, perform the following steps:
    1. Connect your computer to another network or mobile data hotspot (try multiple networks if necessary). If your computer can connect to the network and access the Internet, the computer is normal and the issue may be caused by router network restrictions. In this case, power off the router and optical modem, and wait for 5 to 10 minutes before powering on and restarting them again. If the issue persists, it is recommended that you restore the router to its factory settings and reconfigure it.

The methods of restoring factory settings and reconfiguring the router vary depending on the router brand. If you have any question when configuring your router, contact the router vendor for assistance.

    2. Reset the network of your computer.
    3. Disable and re-enable the network adapter driver as shown below:
      1. Press Win+X to open Device Manager.

      2. Click Network adapters and then Intel(R) Wireless AC 9560 or Realtek 8822CE Wireless LAN 802.11ac PCI-E NIC or Intel(R) Wi-Fi 6 AX201. (Intel(R) Wireless AC 9560 is used as an example.)

      3. Right-click the network adapter driver and select Disable service. After the network adapter driver is disabled, restart the computer.

      4. Right-click the network adapter driver again and select Enable device.

    4. Uninstall and re-reinstall the Wi-Fi driver. To do so, perform the following:

      • Skip this step for HUAWEI MateBook E 2019 and HUAWEI MateBook E Go.
      • [Prerequisite] Ensure that the computer can access the Internet through a wired network or use USB tethering with an Android phone/tablet.
      • Use USB tethering: Connect an Android phone to the computer using a USB cable, go to the phone's Settings > Mobile network > Personal hotspot > More, enable USB tethering, and wait until the network icon in the lower right corner of the computer changes to the computer icon. Open any website and check that you can access the Internet. Then uninstall and reinstall the network adapter driver.
      1. Uninstall the Wi-Fi driver: Right-click the Start icon on the desktop and go to Device Manager > Open. Find Network adapters, right-click the network adapter driver as needed (for example, Intel(R) Wireless-AC 9560), and select Uninstall device. In the displayed dialog box, select Attempt to remove the driver for this device., and click Uninstall.

      2. Install the Wi-Fi driver: Restart the computer and connect it to a wired or wireless network. Open Huawei PC Manager, go to Optimization > Drivers, select the wireless network adapter as needed, and click UPDATE.

      3. After the Wi-Fi driver is updated, restart the computer.
  • If the error code is 10, perform the following steps:
    1. Unplug the power cable, press and hold the Power button for 15 seconds to power off the device. Restart the device and see if the issue is resolved.

  • The error code is 56.

If a registry error occurs due to VM or other software installation and the driver cannot be identified, use CCleaner to clear the registry. (Before clearing the registry, it is recommended that you back up the registry by referring to Backing up and restoring the registry data.) Then perform the following steps:

Download and install CCleaner Free from the official CCleaner website. After the installation is complete, open CCleaner, go to Registry > Scan for Issues > Review selected Issues, choose whether to back up the registry, click Fix All Selected Issues, then restart your computer.

  • The network adapter does not exist, or error code 52 displays (meaning abnormal software installation/no digital signature).

This is because a driver without Huawei digital signature is installed. As a result, the system cannot identify the Wi-Fi driver. If error code 43 displays, it may indicate that the network adapter is not identified. In this case, uninstall the driver and install a driver with Huawei digital signature.
