Update issues of HUAWEI WATCH Series

Update preparations:

  • Battery level: Ensure that the watch's battery level is higher than 45%.
  • Network environment: A stable WLAN is available.
  • Automatic update settings (WATCH 5/Ultimate 2): Go to Settings > HUAWEI WATCH XX > Check > Settings > and enable Auto-download over WLAN and Auto-update.

Two update methods:

Method 1: Update directly on the watch (recommended)

  1. End the Bluetooth connection between your phone and watch.
  2. Connect your watch to a WLAN, and then do the following:
    • WATCH 5/Ultimate 2: Go to Settings > HUAWEI WATCH XX > New version found.
    • WATCH 3/4: Go to Settings > Apps > Apps > Update > Storage > Clear data, and then go to Settings > System & updates > Update.

Method 2: Update via the Huawei Health app (not supported on iPhones)

  • Applicable phones: Phones running EMUI 10/Android 9.0 or later
  • Path: Huawei Health > Devices > General settings > Firmware update.

If the update fails, perform the following to troubleshoot:

The Huawei health app fails to transfer the update package/transfers the update package slowly

  • Disable Bluetooth on your phone and update via the watch.
  • After the update is complete, enable Bluetooth on your phone and reconnect your watch to the Huawei Health app.

No new version detected

  • Updates are pushed in batches: Due to the large number of watches, the watch version will be pushed in batches. Please stay tuned for version updates and update your watch at your earliest convenience.
  • Network fluctuates: Disable Bluetooth on your phone and update directly on the watch.

A message displays indicating failure to download and install the new watch version

  1. Ensure that the WLAN is stable. If your watch's network signal is poor, the download of the update package and the download speed will be affected.
  2. Go to Settings > System & updates > Update on the watch to download the update package.
  3. Do not perform any operation during the installation. Wait until the system automatically restarts.
  4. If the update package fails to be verified, authenticated, or installed, restart your watch and perform the update again. If the issue persists, restore your watch to its factory settings, pair your watch, download the update package, and try again. (Restoring the watch to its factory settings will clear all data from the device. Please exercise caution when performing this operation.)

    • Before a factory reset of your wearable, it is recommended that you swipe down on the Huawei Health app home screen to sync data. A factory reset will not clear the historical data that has been synced and uploaded to Huawei Health.
    • If your watch has activated the eSIM service, make sure to leave the check box of Delete eSIM configuration unselected when performing a factory reset. By doing so, you can directly use the eSIM service when you pair your watch again. Otherwise, you will need to contact your carrier to deregister from the eSIM service and activate it again.

A HUAWEI WATCH 5 series watch displays a message indicating that the storage space is insufficient for updates

On your watch, go to Settings > Apps > Apps and delete apps that occupy too much space.

If the issue persists

If the issue remains unresolved or you encounter any difficulties, back up your data and take your device and proof of purchase to an authorized Huawei Customer Service Center for assistance.
