Unable to enable USB debugging when my HUAWEI phone is connected to a computer using a USB cable

Perform the following to troubleshoot:

1. Replace the USB cable

It is recommended that you connect your phone using a standard USB cable, because non-standard USB cables may only support charging.

2. Select the Transfer photos or Transfer files connection mode

Once you use a USB cable to connect to a computer, select the Transfer photos or Transfer files connection mode.

3. Enable Allow ADB debugging in charge only mode

  1. Open Settings, search for and access About phone, and quickly touch HarmonyOS version/Software version for seven consecutive times to enter Developer mode.

    • If your phone has set up a lock screen password, follow the onscreen instructions to enter the password.
    • Developer mode can be enabled only when you are using the phone as the owner. It cannot be enabled if you have entered a sub-user account or PrivateSpace, or if Digital Balance has been enabled with the device set for child use.
    • Developer mode requires a basic understanding of the functions and features on your phone/tablet. Incorrect settings may cause your phone/tablet to malfunction. Therefore, it is strongly recommended that you disable this mode during daily use.
  2. Open Settings, search for and access Developer options, then enable Allow ADB debugging in charge only mode and USB debugging.

Note: It is recommended that you exit Developer mode after the connection is complete.

If the issue persists or you encounter any difficulties, please contact the Huawei customer service hotline for assistance. We will do our best to address your needs.
