Using the recessed camera on my HUAWEI laptop

Non-recessed camera (front camera)

Certain laptop models have their camera located at the top of the screen. The system automatically enables the front camera when you open an app such as Camera or have a video call.

You can enable or disable the camera in any of the following ways (Click the following link to go to the corresponding operation).

Method 1: Using Control Panel

Method 2: Using the physical keys on the keyboard (supported only by the HUAWEI MateBook D 16 Series)

Method 3: Using the independent camera switch (supported only by HUAWEI MateBook X Pro Core Ultra Premium Edition)

  • Method 1: Using Control Panel
    1. Click on the taskbar at the bottom of the screen to open Control Panel, and select the Camera card.

      • You can also click on the taskbar at the bottom of the screen to open Huawei PC Manager, click My devices, and select the Camera card.
      • If the camera card is not available on Control Panel or the My devices screen of Huawei PC Manager, or a reminder is displayed after you click the camera card indicating that the camera card fails to be opened and asking you to install the filter driver and try again, refer to Using AI Camera in Huawei PC Manager to install the camera filter driver.

    2. Access the camera settings screen and click the camera switch to enable or disable the camera.
  • Method 2: Using the physical keys on the keyboard (supported only by the HUAWEI MateBook D 16 Series)

Pressing the camera key only enables or disables the camera, not apps such as Camera.

Press the camera key in the upper right corner of the keyboard to quickly enable or disable the camera. For details, see the following figure.

For example, when you open an app such as Camera or start a video chat, pressing the camera key will disable the camera, and pressing the key again will enable the camera.

  • Method 3: Using the independent camera switch (supported only by HUAWEI MateBook X Pro Core Ultra Premium Edition)

Pressing the independent camera switch only enables or disables the camera, not apps such as Camera.

The independent camera switch is toggled off by default. The switch powers off the camera to prevent peeping and better protect your privacy.

    • Flip the switch on the right side of the laptop towards the screen to enable the camera permission and use the corresponding app to take photos or record videos.
    • Flip the switch on the right side of the laptop towards the touchpad to disable the camera permission. In this case, the camera won't be available, and the right side of the switch will display in red.

Recessed camera (only available on certain models)

Certain HUAWEI laptop models feature a recessed camera. Press the camera key on the keyboard (usually between F6 and F7 and actual location may vary) to eject the camera, and take photos or have video calls over the Camera app or other apps. Press the key again to retract the camera.
