[HUAWEI] My wearable device fails to link with the Huawei Health app for the first pairing attempt

Refer to the instructions on how to pair and connect your wearable device with an Android phone or with an iPhone.

Before pairing, make sure that your Huawei Health app is updated to the latest version.

If the pairing fails, perform the following steps.

1. Enable the location permission for the Huawei Health app

  • iPhones (taking iOS 13.6 as an example): Go to Settings > HUAWEI Health > Location, and select Always. (When using the Huawei Health app for the first time, please start a workout first to trigger the location permission request.)
  • HUAWEI phones (taking EMUI 11.0 as an example): Go to Settings > Apps & services/Apps > Apps > Huawei Health > Permissions, and enable Location (Allow all the time is recommended).

  • Other Android phones: Go to Settings > Apps > App management > Huawei Health > Permission management, and grant the permissions for accessing Location (Always allowed is recommended) and Nearby devices (Allowed is recommended, and if it's already Allowed you should switch to Forbidden before setting it to Allowed again).

Actual interfaces may vary depending on your phone model and OS version. You can also consult with the phone's manufacturer for assistance.

2. Enable location services or GPS on your phone

  • iPhones (taking iOS 13.6 as an example): Go to Settings > Privacy & Security > Location Services, and toggle on the switch.
  • HUAWEI phones (taking EMUI 11.0 as an example): Go to Settings > Privacy > Location, enable Access my location, touch Advanced settings, and enable Wi-Fi scanning and Bluetooth scanning.

  • Other Android phones (taking Samsung S20 that runs Android 11-based One UI 3.0 as an example): Go to Settings > Location and tap the Location switch to turn it on.

3. Delete all previously paired devices

Check whether any paired devices display in the Bluetooth list on your phone, and check whether your wearable device has been paired with any other phones. If so, delete the pairing records, and disable and then re-enable Bluetooth on your phone.

4. Re-enable Bluetooth on your phone and restart your wearable device

If the pairing still fails, restart your phone and wearable device, then try again.

5. Restore your phone's network settings

Restoring your phone's network settings will not erase any important data on your phone, but will only erase all previously paired Bluetooth devices and all previously connected WLAN and mobile data networks. Restore your phone's network settings, restart your phone, and try pairing again.

  • HUAWEI phones (taking EMUI 11.0 as an example): Go to Settings > System & updates > Reset > Reset network settings, and touch Reset network settings at the bottom.
  • iPhones (taking iOS 13.6 as an example): Go to Settings > General > Transfer or Reset iPhone > Reset > Reset Network Settings.
  • Other Android phones (taking Xiaomi phones as an example): Go to Settings > Connection & sharing > Reset Wi-Fi, mobile networks, and Bluetooth, and touch Reset settings at the bottom. The actual UI should prevail.

Uninstall and reinstall the Huawei Health app

Go to Huawei Health > Me > Settings > Sync data manually and touch the SYNC button to sync your data. Then uninstall and reinstall the Huawei Health app, and try pairing again.

6. Restore to factory settings

Restore your wearable device to its factory settings and pair it with your phone again. Restoring to factory settings will clear all data on your wearable device. Please exercise caution when doing so.
